Biodynamic Farming

We have been touting the quality of Jurlique’s products at Sweet 185 for a long time now, but do you know what makes Jurlique different?

Their products are produced through biodynamic farming on their own 153-acre farm in Mylor, South Australia. The experience of operating the farm has made Jurlique’s botanical expertise unparalleled. Through the techniques of biodynamic farming, Jurlique has been an industry leader – optimizing the potency of the plants grown for the most effective results on skin.

Their formulas are complemented with the finest, most potent, biodynamic organics and natural ingredients sourced the world over – ingredients which meet Jurlique’s exacting standards, such as…

  • Rosa Galica The roses grown at Jurlique’s Mylor farm were originally established as one of the first productive crops, and today they still harvest from those original bushes. Jurlique harvests almost 2000 rose bushes to use in their skin care formulations. Roses are flowers that give off the feeling of warmth, generosity, and love; they have a special scent that gives wonderful aromatherapy effects. Within the petals is found rose oil and rose water, which are a foundation for many of Jurlique’s most popular products. The benefits of rose water and oils are that they soothe dry and sensitive skin, and make aging skin look younger.
  • Calendula is harvested from late spring all through summer and is the highest yielding crop for Mylor farm. Calendula officinalis herb is essential for producing a number of Jurlique skin care formulations, including our “Jurlique Calendula Cream”, which when applied to the skin assists in the restoration and conditioning of delicate skin, and is ideal as an after-sun moisturizer.
  • Spilanthes acmella is native to the tropics of Brazil and is cultivated under subtropical conditions all year round within the hot house at the Jurlique farm. Known as “The Toothache Plant”, the plant produces a numbing effect when the leaves or flowers are chewed, mildly anaesthetizing the tongue and gums. Spilanthes extract is reported to reduce muscle tension when applied topically, and as such it aids to decrease facial lines and wrinkles that are partially caused by tense or contracted facial muscles. It is claimed that Spilanthes also contains anti–bacterial, anti–fungal and anti–parasitic properties. Spilanthes is contained within the majority of Jurlique products.
  • Chamomile is one of the most important herbs grown at Jurlique farm, as it is featured in a large number of our skin care formulas. The active ingredients found in the chamomile flower are volatile oils, also known as essential oils and flavonoids. These essential oils act by soothing the skin in combination with additional ingredients found in Jurlique products. Chamomile is also used in one of their important biodynamic preparations, which are created to support the health of the soil and plants, and are the foundation of our biodynamic practices. Chamomile is one of the most versatile herbs to be found on Mylor Farm.

For some, this information is fascinating. For others, not so much. The good news is you don’t have to know the science behind the farm to understand how it impacts the quality. Simply experiencing the products in a facial at Sweet 185 or during your at-home care shows the difference. Our staff is always on hand to answer questions about Jurlique products, and free skin consultations are available as well.
